Register Your Mentoring Program on Volunteer Solutions
Because many people looking for volunteer opportunities begin their search online, the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service has instituted a statewide Volunteer Solutions system. By using this registration system, potential volunteers can enter their area of interest and geographic location to instantly view a list of organizations that are currently in need of volunteers. And, organizations that need volunteers can quickly learn about and contact the people who are interested in helping them.
If your mentoring program is interested in utilizing this system please go to http://www.volunteeriowa.org/ - from there, just click on the "Need Volunteers?" link in the bottom left-hand corner to register your agency. We hope this system will better allow potential volunteers to get matched up with agencies that are in need of their services!
MENTOR Launches Online Community for Mentors:
MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership has opened a new online community where mentors from all over the country (and the world) can come to learn from each other and share their stories.
The Online Community Boards opened in July and visitors are starting to post many tips and mentoring activity ideas in several threaded discussions. Interested mentors (or program staff) can join the conversations at: http://forums.mentoring.org/ntlm/
